News 2025 11 Cat 5 Kabel

As of January Datwyler will be offering new category 5 and 5e patch cables, characterised by their flexibility, surge voltage resistance and slim connectors. The standard range includes lengths from 0.5 to 20 metres in seven difference colours.

The CU 5502 flex 4P cable used allows data communication up to 1000 megabits per second (Mbit/s). This type of cable is extremely flexible and has an excellent screening effect thanks to high coverage copper braid. It has been tested to DIN EN 60664-1 for surge voltages up to six kilovolts (6 kV) and meets the requirements for installation in meter panels and electrical distributors.

The patch cables are fitted at both ends with shielded RJ45 connectors and moulded boots. Measuring 11.9 millimetres wide and 15.6 millimetres high, the new connectors from Datwyler are much slimmer than their predecessors. Thanks to the optimised design, they can be plugged in and out more easily, especially in narrow spaces (patch panels, switches) or places that are difficult to reach (back of equipment).

Efficient energy management

A current application of these patch cables is to connect smart meters. The legal specifications – for example the metering act in Germany and the act on the energy transition digitalisation restart in Switzerland – have recently considerably speeded up the installation of smart metering systems. Thanks to the precise measuring and monitoring, subscribers and owners can optimise energy consumption and therefore save costs. Smart technology is also helping save resources.

The online datasheets will follow shortly.
