Defying the AI boom

On June 18th, Datwyler IT Infra and EMS Wiring Systems (EMS) together with the server cooling company Hyprcool presented a new product solution at CfES – the Center for Environmental Sustainability at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore – that can make server cooling in the “AI-stressed” data centres more efficient and resource-saving.

EMS and Datwyler both specialise in modern IT infrastructure solutions for data centres. The solution they presented at the university combines Hyprcool’s patented liquid cooling system – “Spray Jet Impingement” – with Datwyler’s tailor-made smart modular racks and monitoring system. This solution, which enables effective control of heat dissipation, allows data centre operators to achieve higher server densities. With its cooling capacity hundreds of times higher than conventional air cooling methods, it also significantly reduces energy consumption. In combination with Datwyler’s Smart Service Platform (SSP), users can track and monitor the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) in real time.

In 2022 Singapore committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 as part of its climate goals. However, the ​​boom in artificial intelligence (AI) has led to a growing demand for high-density computing, which is expected to multiply in the near future. In order not to slow down the country’s digital economy and at the same time meet the climate goals it has set itself, liquid cooling is crucial – and not just for countries like Singapore, where building land is scarce and expensive. On the one hand, corresponding solutions ensure top performance in AI applications and, on the other hand, support the sustainability efforts of companies and entire countries by reducing the CO₂ footprint.

So it’s no wonder that in addition to students and teachers, numerous interested parties from the IT industry, including system integrators, consultants and end users, took part in the event at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
